The Blog O' The Week #11

Once again, I am a little behind on things...I am trying to fit exercise into my schedule and if I get on the blog, then my day goes by too quickly because I get sucked in to all of your beautiful blogs and then I go to your blog lists and get sucked in further...and then facebook...well, you get the picture.  We are headed to the beach again this summer and I need to feel better about a bathing suit appearance than I do right now ;)  Just curious...do you want to hear more about my weight loss journey or does that bore you?  I am thinking of posting updates on facebook, but not if that is sharing too much.

So...ok...rambling AGAIN.

My blog pick this week is one that I just love. She is a gal who I have been friends with and followed for a few years now. Time flies by so quickly. She has a beautiful little girl from Russia and two sons who are very handsome. She and her husband are also very beautiful...just the whole family! Ok...so their new exciting thing is the building of a new home...and the floor plans are stunning. I know you will want to follow her now so that you can watch it all appear before your own eyes. She has GREAT taste and you will NOT be disappointed by any of her decor.

So without further ado...please go visit Corey at:

Window Box Series

Many of you have commented about window boxes lately and I thought it would be fun to do a few posts on them.  I cannot wait until mine are installed.  I love this one shared on Youtube.

Here is the how to:

And here is the same basket after everything is fully grown:

Do you have window boxes? and how do you plant them?  any tips to share?  Also, are your window boxes wood or wrought iron? or some other material?

Here is the link if you want to purchase these window boxes and other hanging baskets from this company.  They have beautiful things and I am not profiting from this in any way.

The Blog O' The Week #10

I know I have been focused on gardening posts lately, but we are making lots of plans for the outside of our home (the above picture is the featured home, not ours).  We are getting ready to add on a tandem garage in the back and soon, we will have a new roof on the house which is very much needed.  Hopefully new windows for the front bedrooms in the fall (we are going to wait a bit for these) and I have asked our contractor for  a few WINDOW BOXES...makes me giddy just thinking about it all!  This summer we plan to have some deckwork done in the back to replace some very rotten boards and every now and then we stop to ask ourselves...how much money have we spent already on this place? lol  Oh well.  In addition to all of this we are going to do some planting, planting and more planting to re-create the front and back yards.

I have been so sick all week that I have spent a lot of time with my pillow in bed...finally an antibiotic has cured me....ok, off topic again...but thank you to all of you who wished me well.  So, on to my blog of the week (sorry, got a little off-topic there).

Silly Valentines That Make Us Giggle

Many of you have seen these VERY fun Valentine's (below)on Pinterest and I shared them a couple of weeks ago here on Lakeshore.  This weekend, the kids and I had a little fun coming up with our own version.

Here are the Pinterest Valentine's

aren't they cute?

And here are ours...
just pretend there is a sucker in their hand...

the wax lips made us laugh and were so fun!
You have got to go and get some for yourself.

Don't you just love that Russian hat?

Even my middle schooler had a good time
with it all...(although he won't be handing any out at school...lol)

Each of the kids helped me edit and Picnik each of the shots via Picasa Web Albums.  This is a free tool that you can download on the internet.

I ordered the photos on Shutterfly and we will finish them up this weekend with candy, of course.  I wanted to share these with you today in case you are trying to think of a different idea for Valentine's for your children.  These were actually cheaper to do than buying the boxed Valentine's at the store.

Hope you got a little giggle out of these!

Welcome to all of you who are new to my blog!

Thank you again Vanessa and Heather from

for featuring me on your Facebook page!
You girls are so wonderful.

The Blog O' The Week #8

is a blog that I found this week while clicking through a few linky parties.  One of my goals this year is to start doing hand embroidery so I was drawn to the post she shared.  Sarah gives a GREAT tutorial for hand stitching on card stock and has some really sweet examples and ideas for YOU!

I hope you will go now and pay her a visit and decide to FOLLOW her!  She is one crafty girl!

I love the look of hand embroidery on hoops with pretty fabric, don't you?

Gardening Inspiration: Borders and Fencelines

Here are a few of the things I have PINNED on PINTEREST that have inspired me to think about border plantings and plantings along the fenceline in the front yard.  Warning..these pictures will truly make you want to run to a Nursery in the dead of winter...but fortunately they will not have these plants yet in my corner of the world.

What are your favorite perennials?

Here is a picture of my very boring front yard as it is today.   I have big plans but that is the problem...too many things that I like.

It's pretty much a clean slate.  We had many overgrown bushes removed last spring.  Right now there is black tarp and lots of mulch.  There is about a foot in front of the fence that is mulched and ready to plant a row of something and there is a lot of room behind the fence for new bushes, etc.  The picture is a little deceiving.
I cannot decide on a landscaping color scheme...whether I want a more manicured landscape with boxwoods or a fluffy cottagey look.  Things I know are daylilies.  I don't ever have much luck with roses; however, I know that shrub roses are relatively carefree (at least that is what I have read).  Honestly, the picture that speaks to me the most is the picture above with the pink roses along the fenceline.

What do you think?

Thoughts of Spring and Gardening

We are experiencing warmer than normal temperatures here and I am not sure exactly what is going on, but it does have me thinking about Spring.  I know that the days of snow, ice and chilly temperatures are not gone, but every January/February I get the gardening itch and it doesn't go away for a while.  At least it is not the baking itch, right?  Baking does me no good...it only makes me grow BIGGER.  ok, so I did actually bake a cake today too. :/

The first two photos are from BHG.

This one had me at HELLO.  The patriot hostas and the boxwood are a marriage made in heaven.
This grouping uses the perfect rule to place large leafed plants next to small leaf plants for contrast.  Did you notice there is not one flower in this picture, yet it is soooo appealing to the eye?

I really love the foxglove in this picture as well as the other colorful flowers. Did you know they are poisonous?  Don't let your toddler chew on one.  They are SO pretty next to the little white fence.
Very Cottagey (is that a word?)

And I really like the daylilies paired with the shrub roses in this picture for almost year-long color.  Sorry, I cannot find the source...it was just in my photo file.

Where do you get your gardening inspiration?  Did you do your own yard or did someone come up with the design for you?  I would love to know what websites you go to for inspiraation!  Now, girls...I KNOW there are a few of you reading this who are not going to let me know all of your GARDENING TALENTS...you are going to lurk and see what I come up with...this is a call for help.  Make sure you PLEASE check back on me and don't be afraid to give me your advice.  I need it.  Seriously.

Promise?

Still Trying to Catch Up From the Holidays?

Yes, me too.

Last weekend we had our neighbors over for chili to spend some time and get to know each other better and that was the motivation I needed to get the house back together.  After the holidays, all I did was get ready for the cruise and now that the cruise has come and gone...it was time to get my rear in gear.  No more excuses (it's already February!)

So things got cleaned and redecorated and rearranged and I feel better when I pass through from room to room.  Nothing new really...but it is fun to just use what you have and when you move it around it looks new!  There was no money spent at all...just a little furniture polish and a vacuum.

the flour sack pillow has a new home here.

Hope you are having a great week.
